From Mic To Medics: Toolman Kibalama’s Unconventional Career Shift

Toolman Kibalama, born Freddrick Kibalama, has come a long way since his humble beginnings in Kyebando, a suburb on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda.

His music journey began in 1997 as a DJ at Disco Sounds, where he would sing along to popular tracks. Over time, he honed his skills, eventually becoming a renowned dancehall singer in Uganda.

Toolman, a renowned Ugandan dancehall singer, achieved a remarkable milestone five years ago by graduating as a certified nurse from a German institution in 2020.

Known for his hit song “Kisumuluzo,” Toolman shared his exciting news on social media, expressing gratitude and pride in completing his three-year Nursing course. His journey involved:

  • One year of intensive German language learning
  • Three years of studying Nursing

Toolman joined Ugandan artists like Amos Kigenyi alias Gen. Mega Dee, who have successfully pursued Nursing careers abroad. He is also a founding member of the Firebase crew, led by Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu), a singer-turned-politician.
