origin of Valentine’s day dates back to ancient Roman times when Emperor Claudius II banned
marriage in an effort to strengthen his army. St. Valentine, a priest in Rome, defied the emperor’s
orders and continued to perform marriages in secret. When he was caught St. Valentine was
sentenced to death on February 14th and it is said that he sent a letter to his jailer’s daughter signed
(From Your Valentine), thus creating the first Valentine’s Day Card.
