Uganda Crowned Africa’s Top Coffee Exporter: Record 47,606.7 Tonnes Exported in May 2025

Uganda has indeed become Africa’s top coffee exporter, surpassing Ethiopia with a record-breaking 47,606.7 tonnes exported in May 2025. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Uganda’s agricultural sector and export economy. Here’s a breakdown of Uganda’s coffee export performance :

  • Export Volume: 47,606.7 tonnes (793,445 bags) in May 2025, representing a 43.6% increase from May 2024.
  • Earnings: $243.9 million in May 2025, contributing to a total of $2.09 billion earned between June 2024 and May 2025.
  • Export Destinations:
    • Europe: 67% (Italy being the top destination with 39%)
    • Africa: 18%
    • Asia: 13%
  • Annual Export Performance: 7.43 million bags exported between June 2024 and May 2025.

This remarkable growth is attributed to strategic government investments, empowering farmers, improving production methods, and expanding value-added processing. Uganda’s coffee sector has demonstrated robust growth, positioning the country as a dominant force in the global market.
