President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed that he will be the guest of honor at the launch of the construction of a multi-billion commercial building on land owned by Buganda Kingdom clan heads. The event is scheduled to take place on July 20, 2025, opposite Bulange, the headquarters of the Buganda Kingdom.
According to Omutaka Kyadondo Mbugalamula, the Nvuma clan head, the launch ceremony will begin with thanksgiving prayers, followed by President Museveni’s inspection of the land and other business activities taking place on the site. The President will then launch the building process, which will be carried out by the UPDF Engineering Brigade.

This development comes after the clan heads declined to honor Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s orders to surrender land titles and other documents related to the land, which President Museveni purchased for them in 2023 after meeting with them at State House Entebbe.
Kabaka Mutebi, through his premier Charles Peter Mayiga, wrote to Omutaka Ssalongo Augustine Kizito Mutumba, the Buganda Kingdom clan heads council speaker, demanding the immediate surrender of the documents.
However, the clan heads refused, citing concerns that their land would be grabbed and placed under the management of the Buganda Land Board.
“We pleaded with the Kabaka to give us land at Mengo, but the Buganda Land Board denied us access. Now, we’ve lobbied and the President has bought land for us. They can’t take it away from us,” one of the clan heads said.
The dispute between the clan heads and the Kabaka’s leadership has been ongoing, with both Kabaka Mutebi and Mayiga protesting the clan heads’ meeting with President Museveni, insisting that it aims to weaken the Buganda Kingdom leadership.
