Minister for the Presidency, Ms Milly Babalanda, has directed the immediate transfer of Buikwe Resident District Commissioner Hawa Namugenyi to headquarters following an illegal eviction and allegations of corruption.
Ms Namugenyi had mobilized a team of security personnel to demolish a house belonging to Simon Herbart Alideki, despite a court injunction. The move was criticized by Minister Diana Mutasingwa, who intervened and stopped the eviction.
The RDC’s actions were deemed to have discredited the office of the President, prompting Minister Babalanda to order a detailed report on the matter. The President will make a final decision on the matter after receiving the report.
Residents of Buikwe had also protested against Ms Namugenyi’s alleged corrupt practices, accusing her of soliciting money to address their concerns. The Deputy RDC of Buikwe will take charge of the RDC office in the interim.
This incident highlights the need for accountability in public office and the importance of upholding the rule of law. The swift action taken by Minister Babalanda and Minister Mutasingwa demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and protecting the rights of citizens.
