Former Gender Minister Zoe Bakoko Bakoro recently met with General Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), in Gulu. This meeting was part of the new ‘Gulu Hub’ initiative and aimed to discuss Uganda’s ambitious 10-fold economic growth strategy.
The strategy focuses on four key areas:
– Agro-industrialization and light manufacturing: Targeting USD 20 billion to boost productivity and employment.
– Tourism: Generating USD 50 billion through improved infrastructure, security, and mobility.
– Extractives and capital sector: Promoting mineral beneficiation and oil investments to drive growth.
– Science, technology, and innovation: Leveraging emerging technologies for economy-wide impact.
The meeting also included notable figures such as General Otema Awany, Commander of the UPDF Reserve Force, and Tourism Ambassador Amos Wekesa. The resolutions from the meeting highlighted the importance of training youth in hospitality, addressing factors of production, and promoting local capacity in agro-industrialization and innovation.
These efforts aim to drive sustainable economic growth, improve livelihoods, and position Uganda as a competitive player in the global economy. The 10-fold growth strategy is an ambitious plan, and its success relies heavily on the involvement of citizens, the business community, and government agencies working together.
