Besigye’s Case Adjourned to March 28, Remanded to Luzira

Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been remanded back to Luzira Prison until March 28, 2025, when the court will resume hearing his case. This development comes after Besigye’s lawyers filed a habeas corpus application seeking his unconditional release from prison.

Besigye’s health has been a concern, with reports indicating that he appeared weak and dehydrated during a recent court appearance ². The government has since reassured the public about his health, stating that he will receive medical treatment in a hospital of his choice.

The case against Besigye and his co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale, has been transferred from the General Court Martial to a civilian court, following a Supreme Court ruling that declared the trial of civilians in military courts illegal.
