Presidential hopefuls in Uganda will now submit their nomination papers earlier than expected. The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that presidential nominations will take place on September 23 and 24, 2025, instead of the previously planned dates of October 2 and 3.
EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama explained that the adjustment is aimed at giving the Commission more time to prepare for the 2026 general elections — including ballot printing, logistics, and other key processes.
“This change gives us a smoother runway and allows candidates more time to campaign across the country,” he said.
Political parties and candidates will need to speed up preparations like primaries and endorsements.
The EC will soon release an updated election roadmap to reflect the new timelines.
Voters and the public are encouraged to stay informed and follow official updates.
The EC is urging all stakeholders — from political players to civil society and the media — to help spread the word about the new dates, ensuring no one is caught off guard.
