Sixteen MPs Back PFF at First National Convention Ahead of 2026 Polls

The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) marked a major milestone today during its first national convention held at its headquarters in Katonga, Kampala. Surrounded by party members and invited guests, the event turned into a powerful show of momentum as sixteen Members of Parliament declared support for the newly formed opposition party.

Among the notable figures embracing the PFF banner were:

Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, acting spokesperson

Erias Lukwago, interim party president

Asinansi Nyakato, Francis Mwijukye, Michael Kabaziguruka, Betty Muzanira, Wafula Oguttu, and Betty Aol Ochan, a former Leader of Opposition

Many of the defectors are former FDC legislators who say the time has come for a fresh, principled political path.

“We are here because we believe Uganda needs a new direction—one rooted in truth, service, and unity,” said Ssemujju Nganda.

The PFF, officially registered in May, used the convention to kick off candidate nominations for the 2026 elections and to reaffirm its commitment to coalition-building with other opposition forces like the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Today’s show of support suggests PFF is quickly moving from a fringe force to a serious contender—and with 2026 on the horizon, it’s clear that the winds of change are picking up speed.
