DNA Tests Reveal Only 4 of 9 Children Biologically Related to Late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya

Weeks after the nation laid to rest the late Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, a quiet storm has begun to stir behind closed doors. DNA results, recently made public, have revealed that only four of the nine children long believed to be his biological offspring are in fact related to him by blood. The remaining five, including the youngest, were found to have different paternal origins.

The revelation comes at a delicate time for the grieving family, who are still trying to come to terms with the loss of a man widely known for his big heart, unwavering dedication to the poor, and fierce voice in Parliament.

Ssegirinya, who passed away after a prolonged illness, had built an image not only as a political firebrand but as a devoted father and community figure. Often affectionately called “Mr. Update” for his frequent social media posts, he was known to many as a humble, approachable leader who never forgot his roots in Kampala’s ghettos.

For those close to him, the DNA results have been difficult to process. Sources familiar with the situation say that the tests were conducted to bring clarity to family matters—likely in the context of inheritance and future care for the children following Ssegirinya’s passing.

While some in the public have reacted with speculation or judgment, others have called for compassion, recognizing that family is more than just biology. “He raised them as his own, and that’s what matters,” one family friend said. “He never treated any of them differently.”

The findings may affect legal decisions regarding inheritance, especially in the absence of a publicly known will. But beyond the legal implications, the emotional toll on the children and those who loved Ssegirinya is significant. These are not just headlines — they are lives, bonds, and memories shaped over years of shared experiences.

Ssegirinya’s legacy in Ugandan politics remains intact. He was a man who, despite his struggles and controversies, won the hearts of many through his empathy, his service, and his belief that even the voiceless deserved to be heard. For many of his supporters, these recent developments don’t change that.

As his family continues to navigate the days ahead, they do so under the heavy weight of grief, now compounded by complex truths. But one thing remains clear: Muhammad Ssegirinya, in life and in death, leaves behind a story that is as human as it is political — full of love, flaws, sacrifice, and unanswered questions.
