Final Fadeout Uganda Mourns DJ Bush Baby

The Ugandan entertainment industry is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic figures. Michael Benjamin Owor, widely known as DJ Bush Baby, was found dead in one of his private studios in Entebbe on June 5, 2025, after being reported missing for two days. He was a pioneer of Uganda’s urban music and DJ culture, a mentor to many, and a driving force behind the professionalization of the DJ industry in East Africa

DJ Bush Baby rose to fame in the early 2000s with his genre-blending DJ sets, which brought together hip hop, dancehall, R&B, and Ugandan music in fresh, boundary-pushing ways. As a respected radio presenter, music curator, and entertainment executive, he helped shape the sonic landscape of Ugandan youth culture.

His impact extended beyond the decks. DJ Bush Baby was instrumental in introducing and promoting urban music on platforms like Sanyu FM and later Vision Group, where he helped elevate local talent to national recognition.

In 2021, DJ Bush Baby suffered a serious accident after falling through a weak manhole cover, which left him with a fractured pelvis and internal injuries. He underwent surgery and launched a fundraiser to support his recovery. The response from the community was overwhelming, showing just how much love and respect he had earned over the years.

Marking one year after the accident, he reflected publicly on his journey, stating:

“My smile is back because you all walked with me through the pain.”

In recent years, DJ Bush Baby became a strong advocate for the recognition of DJs as professionals in the music industry. Through his “Salute the DJ” initiative, he mentored upcoming talent and pushed for improved working conditions and respect for DJs. His efforts laid the groundwork for the careers of many younger artists and entertainers.

Tragically, DJ Bush Baby was found deceased in one of his private studios in Entebbe on the morning of June 5, 2025. He had been missing for two days, prompting concern from friends and family. Details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been confirmed, and authorities are continuing investigations.

His sudden passing has shocked fans and colleagues alike, with tributes pouring in from across Uganda and the diaspora.

DJ Bush Baby’s contribution to Uganda’s music and entertainment scene is immeasurable. He will be remembered not only for his skills and influence behind the turntables, but also for his humility, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the growth of the industry.

As tributes continue to flow, one thing remains clear: DJ Bush Baby was more than a DJ — he was a movement, a mentor, and a legend whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
