Torture Allegations: Gachagua Accuses Government of Abducting MP George Koimburi

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of abducting and torturing Juja MP George Koimburi, a vocal critic of President William Ruto’s administration. Koimburi was allegedly taken by men posing as worshippers after a church service and later found unconscious in a coffee plantation. Gachagua claims Koimburi was “expertly tortured” with chemicals, rendering him unable to speak.

The National Police Service (NPS), however, disputes this narrative, stating that Koimburi staged his abduction to evade arrest in a land fraud investigation. According to the NPS, Koimburi fled from police on a motorcycle after learning of plans to apprehend him.

Koimburi’s troubles stem from a land fraud case involving irregular land transactions in Juja and Thika. He has also faced charges for allegedly forging academic certificates and making false claims about government spending. The MP’s situation has sparked a political firestorm, with opposition leaders alleging government-orchestrated persecution.
