Vatican Reassigns Uganda’s Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Luigi Bianco to Slovenia and Kosovo

In a significant diplomatic reshuffle, Pope Leo XVI has reassigned Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, to new responsibilities in Europe. Archbishop Bianco, who holds the titular see of Falerone, has been appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia and Apostolic Delegate to Kosovo.

As the Holy See’s ambassador, the Apostolic Nuncio represents the Pope both to the local Catholic Church and to the government of the host country. Archbishop Bianco has served in Uganda since [insert appointment year], where he played a vital role in strengthening diplomatic and pastoral ties between the Vatican and both the Ugandan Catholic Church and the government.

His departure marks the end of a notable chapter in the Vatican’s relationship with Uganda. The Apostolic Nuncio’s office in Kampala has traditionally been key in coordinating with the Uganda Episcopal Conference and providing pastoral oversight and diplomatic representation.

No official announcement has been made yet regarding his successor. The Kampala Archdiocese and the broader Ugandan Catholic community await the Vatican’s decision on who will fill the crucial post.

In a recent display of his pastoral duties, Archbishop Bianco led prayers at Lubaga Cathedral during a memorial for Bishop Albert Edward Baharagate, Emeritus Bishop of Hoima. His presence and leadership during such moments have been deeply appreciated by the faithful.

The Kampala Archdiocese has expressed gratitude for Archbishop Bianco’s dedicated service, noting his efforts to promote unity and provide support amid social and political challenges.

His reassignment comes at a time when Uganda’s Catholic Church remains a central pillar in education, healthcare, and social justice across the nation. The appointment of a new Apostolic Nuncio is expected to draw significant interest from both Church and state leadership.

Further updates on the appointment of Archbishop Bianco’s successor are expected from the Vatican in the coming weeks.
