Museveni Meets Tooro Kingdom: Fort Portal to Get New Stadium and Airport, Says Museveni

By Dean Lubowa Saava

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of hosting His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the King of Tooro, along with the Queen Mother and their esteemed delegation, at the Fort Portal State Lodge. The meeting was a significant step towards strengthening the bond between the government and the Kingdom of Tooro.

As we sat down, I was impressed by the King’s enthusiasm for development projects that would benefit his people. One of the key areas we discussed was the construction of a modern stadium in Fort Portal. Such a facility would not only provide a platform for local talent to shine but also attract tourists from across the region.

Another crucial project we deliberated on was the expansion of the aerodrome into a full-fledged airport. This would be a game-changer for tourism in the area, enabling visitors to reach Fort Portal easily and explore the kingdom’s breathtaking landscapes.

We also touched on the sensitive issue of land within the kingdom. I assured the King that we would work together to address any disputes and ensure that the local government and the kingdom coexist peacefully. A key part of this effort would be returning titles to the kingdom’s properties once a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between the government and the kingdom.

The King and his delegation left the meeting with renewed hope and a sense of partnership. I am confident that our collaboration will yield tangible benefits for the people of Tooro and contribute to the region’s overall development.

I look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition and working closely with the Kingdom of Tooro to achieve our shared goals.
