Labour Day Celebrations Underway in Nakapiripirit

The International Labour Day celebrations are currently underway at Nakale Playgrounds in Nakapiripirit District, Uganda. The event is themed “Consolidation on the gains of the Parish Development Model for Increased Productivity and inclusive job creation”. Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Erasmus Twaruhukwa is representing the Inspector General of Police at the function.

Nakapiripirit District, located in Northern Uganda, has a population of approximately 161,600 people, with the majority being Karamojong and practicing animal husbandry. The district is bordered by several other districts, including Napak, Moroto, and Amudat.

The Labour Day celebrations aim to:

  • Appreciate Worker Contributions: Recognize the role of workers in national development
  • Promote Labour Rights: Raise awareness on promoting and protecting workers’ rights
  • Remind Workers of Responsibilities: Emphasize workers’ responsibilities and obligations

The Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development oversees labour-related activities and policies in Uganda. Last year’s Labour Day celebrations were held in various parts of the country, with the Minister of State for Labour emphasizing the importance of multi-skilling in today’s changing world.
