Faridah Nambi Drops Petition for Vote Recount in Kawempe North By-election

Faridah Nambi, the candidate from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the recent Kawempe North by-election, has officially withdrawn her petition requesting a vote recount.

Nambi had initially filed the petition in the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court after the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Nalukoola Luyimbazi, was declared the winner of the election.

However, in a letter dated March 25, addressed to the Kawempe Chief Magistrate, Nambi, through her legal representatives, Atwijukire Dennis Advocates, clarified that the petition had become unnecessary. The letter cited that the Electoral Commission had already gazetted the official results of the Kawempe North by-election, confirming Luyimbazi as the winner, rendering the recount request irrelevant.

“We have received instructions from our client to withdraw the application as the Electoral Commission has already gazetted Mr. Elias Nalukoola as the elected candidate,” the letter stated.

The Electoral Commission made the official announcement on March 24, confirming that Luyimbazi had won the seat in the by-election.

By withdrawing her petition, Nambi and the NRM party have effectively conceded defeat, marking the end of a brief but intense legal challenge. For the past 10 days, Nambi had insisted on seeking legal redress to overturn the results.

Despite the setback, Nambi has already expressed her intention to run for the same seat in the 2026 general elections. In a recent appearance on the NBS Frontline show, she affirmed her commitment to contesting again in the future.
