By Cathy Mirembe

On March 23, 2025, Uganda Airlines issued a press statement to address rumors surrounding the alleged revocation of its permit to operate flights to the United Kingdom. The national carrier categorically dismissed the claims, confirming that its Foreign Carriers Permit remains valid.

This clarification comes at a critical time for Uganda Airlines, as the carrier prepares to launch flights to London Gatwick Airport. This new route is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between Uganda and the UK, fostering economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Uganda Airlines has been aggressively expanding its routes in recent years. Notable launches include direct flights to Mumbai, India, and Lagos, Nigeria. The airline’s current network spans multiple destinations, including Dubai, Johannesburg, Bujumbura, Nairobi, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Juba, Kinshasa, and Mogadishu.

The acquisition of two Airbus A330-800 Neo aircraft in December 2020 and February 2021 was a significant milestone for Uganda Airlines. This investment enabled the carrier to secure landing and departure slots at London Heathrow Airport, paving the way for the upcoming London Gatwick route.

As Uganda Airlines continues to grow and expand its services, it is essential for the carrier to address any misinformation that may impact its reputation or operations. By promptly dismissing the rumors surrounding the UK permit revocation, Uganda Airlines has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and customer trust.

As the airline continues to expand its routes and services, it is well-positioned to play a vital role in promoting economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchange between Uganda and the global community.
