Interpol Ordered to Arrest Uganda Law Society President Isaac Ssemakadde Over Insulting Remarks

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has directed Interpol to arrest Isaac Ssemakadde, President of the Uganda Law Society, to face trial on charges of insulting the modesty of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo.

Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi issued the order after private prosecutors, Tony Tumukunde and Joshua Byamazima, informed the court that Ssemakadde had not been arrested despite a previous warrant. The court had earlier ordered his arrest after he failed to appear in court on multiple occasions.

Ssemakadde is accused of making obscene comments about the DPP during a November 2024 symposium. His lawyers have contested the charges, but the court has now ordered his return to face trial on April 16, 2025.

This marks the second arrest warrant issued against Ssemakadde in two weeks. The first was for contempt of court after he criticized Judge Musa Ssekaana on social media.
