Emmanuel Okwi Retires from International Football

Emmanuel Okwi, the former Uganda Cranes captain, has hung up his international boots at just 32 years old. What a remarkable career he’s had, amassing 95 appearances and 28 goals for the national team.

Okwi’s impressive tally makes him one of Uganda’s most prolific goal-scorers. He’s had an incredible run, playing for Uganda since 2009 and participating in several international competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations.

Some of his notable achievements include scoring two goals at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and netting crucial goals in World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Lesotho.

Okwi’s decision to retire comes as Uganda prepares for the CHAN tournament in August and the AFCON 2027. He believes it’s time for the younger generation to take over, and we can’t help but respect his selfless decision.
