National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) has dismissed President Museveni’s claims of rigging in the Kawempe North by-election. Kyagulanyi called the allegations a desperate attempt to justify NRM’s losses, citing state-sponsored manipulation and intimidation.
Kyagulanyi criticized Museveni, stating that the president’s actions—such as voter bribery, abductions, and military deployment—were the real forms of electoral malpractice. He also claimed Museveni’s efforts to sway urban voters in Kampala failed despite heavy financial investment.
In response to Museveni’s past claims of opposition rigging one million votes in the 2021 elections, Kyagulanyi challenged him to allow an independent audit, a request Museveni has ignored.
Kyagulanyi’s comments come after the NRM announced its intention to challenge the Kawempe North by-election results, in which NUP candidate Elias Nalukoola won. NRM Secretary-General Richard Todwong accused NUP supporters of violence and voter disenfranchisement, calling for a forensic audit of the election.
