Speaker of Parliament Anita Among Declares Wealth to Inspector General of Government

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has declared her income, assets, and liabilities to the Inspector General of Government, complying with the requirements of the Leadership Code Act, 2021. This move is in line with Articles 233 (2) and 234 of the Constitution of Uganda, which mandate government officials and political leaders to declare their wealth to the IGG.

Among’s declaration is a significant step, as she has been urging fellow Members of Parliament to do the same. In fact, she warned that failure to declare assets could result in serious consequences, including the loss of parliamentary seats.

It’s worth noting that 21 MPs have yet to declare their assets to the IGG. Among emphasized that even if they don’t have assets, they should declare their liabilities and income. The Leadership Code Act aims to promote transparency and accountability among public officials while preventing corruption and reinforcing good governance.
