Bobi Wine Claims Surveillance Devices Were Planting During NUP Office Raid

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine has accused security operatives of planting surveillance equipment in his offices and vehicles during a raid on the NUP headquarters last weekend.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday morning, Bobi Wine described how security forces broke into the NUP offices, blocking roads from Bwaise to Kibbiri roundabout before ransacking the premises. He claimed that the operatives were envious of the well-maintained state of the offices.

“The entire place was tossed, and a lot of damage was done,” Bobi Wine said. After the raid, he stated, they discovered several items. Upon consulting with experts, they identified the device

Among the items recovered was a tracking device found in one of Bobi Wine’s personal vehicles, which he occasionally uses instead of his official transport.

“One of the items was a tracker. We found it in one of the cars that I use when I don’t wish to travel in the official vehicles,” he revealed. Additionally, Bobi Wine said that a hidden camera was found inside his office. He also mentioned that the premises were still being screened for other possible surveillance devic

Bobi Wine condemned the actions of the security forces, accusing them of using underhanded tactics instead of displaying true authority.

“This is how these people behave. They are shameless. These are not signs of strength; they are signs of weakness,” he said.

The Uganda Police Force has defended the raids, stating they were part of an investigation into alleged unauthorized military drills at NUP premises. In a statement issued on Saturday, February 22, the police confirmed the operation, which targeted NUP headquarters in Kavule and Kamwokya, had concluded with several exhibits being recovered.

“The Uganda Police Force reports that several exhibits were recovered from these premises and will be used as evidence
