Maryland Man Exonerated, Freed After 30 Years of Wrongful Imprisonment for Murder

James Langhorne, a Maryland man, has finally been exonerated and released from prison after nearly 30 years of wrongful imprisonment for a murder he didn’t commit. Langhorne was convicted of murdering Lawrence Jones Jr., a Johns Hopkins University graduate student, in 1993. However, his conviction was largely based on unreliable witness testimonies and questionable evidence.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates stated that Langhorne should never have been sent to prison, citing a lack of credible evidence ¹. The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project played a crucial role in Langhorne’s exoneration, providing crucial evidence and support throughout the process.

Langhorne, now free, is focusing on rebuilding his life and moving forward. He expressed gratitude to those who helped him and acknowledged that the journey ahead won’t be easy, but he’s determined to make the most of his newfound freedom.
