2024 UCE Results Girls Lead in Some Subjects Performance Improves Overall

The 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results show that 350,146 candidates (98.05%) qualified for the UCE certificate. UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo explained that those who did not meet requirements, like missing compulsory subjects or Project Work, will receive “Result 2” and do not qualify for the certificate. Candidates scoring only Achievement Level E will receive “Result 3,” also not qualifying.

Girls outperformed boys in English, Christian Religious Education, and Art and Design, while boys excelled in History, Geography, Mathematics, Agriculture, Chemistry, and Biology. Exceptional performance was noted in Art and Design, History, and Agriculture. However, Physics, Chemistry, and English had the highest proportion of candidates scoring at the elementary level.

Challenges included difficulties in Science practicals, vocabulary, paraphrasing, and comprehension in English and foreign languages. Candidates also struggled with problem-solving in speaking assessments. Odongo attributed improvements to the competency-based curriculum, which focuses on practical skills and workforce readiness.

Key Statistics:

  • Total candidates: 359,417
  • Qualified candidates: 350,146 (98.05%)
  • Female candidates qualifying: 182,284 (50.7%)
  • Male candidates qualifying: 177,133 (49.3%)
  • Absenteeism rate: 0.6%

Overall, the results reflect the positive impact of the new curriculum on student performance and preparedness.
