Kalifah Aganaga to Represent FDC in Kawempe North By-Election

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially selected musician Sadat Mukiibi, popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga, as their flagbearer for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election. Aganaga’s nomination was announced at a press event held at the party headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday.

The announcement follows a social media teaser from FDC, where they shared a clip from Aganaga’s hit song Ndabirawa, hinting at his growing political ambitions.

Aganaga, a well-known musician, is entering a highly competitive race to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant after the unfortunate passing of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya. The late Ssegirinya, a prominent opposition figure from the National Unity Platform (NUP), passed away on January 9, 2025, at Lubaga Hospital after a long battle with illness. He had represented the Kawempe North constituency, where he was a vocal advocate for social issues affecting Kampala residents.

This by-election is set for March 13, 2025, as announced by the Electoral Commission (EC). Aganaga’s entry adds to an already crowded field of candidates vying for the seat, with a number of individuals hoping to continue Ssegirinya’s legacy.

In the 2021 general elections, Aganaga made his first foray into politics, contesting for the Rubaga South parliamentary seat. However, he lost the race to Aloysius Mukasa

The EC’s roadmap aims to ensure a transparent and efficient election process, guiding all necessary preparations from voter registration to campaign periods, leading up to the polling day.
