NUP Sets Sights on Kira Municipality: Musisi to Challenge Incumbent MP Ssemujju

In a move to expand its political influence, the National Unity Platform (NUP) has revealed plans to challenge incumbent Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda in the 2026 parliamentary elections. High-ranking sources within the party have confirmed that human rights activist and personal lawyer to the party president, George Musisi, will be supported to contest against Ssemujju.

The decision comes after Ssemujju, who has been in parliament since 2011, stated his intention to retire from politics once President Museveni is defeated. However, NUP insiders claim that Ssemujju is seen as a conservative leader who undermines party president Bobi Wine and has been involved in controversial deals with members of the “deep state.”

Musisi’s popularity in the Church of Uganda and among Kira Municipality’s elite made him the preferred candidate over real estate dealer Jimmy Lukwago, who was defeated by Ssemujju in 2021.

Meanwhile, the ruling National Resident Movement (NRM) plans to support Isaac Ssenkubuge, the Bweyogerere Division chairperson, to challenge Ssemujju. Ssenkubuge confirmed his intentions, citing his desire to expose Ssemujju’s alleged hypocrisy.

As the political landscape heats up, sources indicate that Ssemujju remains strong on the ground, particularly among the elite, and that Musisi and Ssenkubuge will need to work hard to defeat him.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
