Tragedy Strikes Kitezi Landfill: Eight Lives Lost, 14 Rescued in Devastating Collapse

A developing story of unimaginable proportions is unfolding in Kitezi, where a catastrophic collapse at the Kampala Capital City Authority Landfill has claimed the lives of eight innocent people, including six adults and two children. The devastating incident, which occurred earlier today, has left a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake.

Thanks to the swift response of emergency services, including the Uganda Police, Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry for Disaster Preparedness, Red Cross, and the local community, 14 people have been rescued and evacuated to nearby Mulago and St. Steven hospitals, where they are receiving critical medical attention.

The collapse, attributed to a structural failure in the waste mass, has left the landfill in a state of utter disarray, with the full extent of the damage still being assessed. Emergency teams, comprising officials from various government agencies, are working tirelessly to secure the area and prevent any further incidents.

As the situation continues to unfold, the Kampala Capital City Authority has assured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
