Ugandan athlete Peruth Chemutai secured a silver medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
This accomplishment comes after a fiercely contested race that saw Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi take the gold, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 8:52.76.
Chemutai, the defending Olympic champion from the Tokyo 2020 Games, led the race for a significant portion but was overtaken by Yavi in the final stretch.
Chemutai finished with a national record time of 8:53.34, while Kenya’s Faith Cherotich
Despite not defending her title, Chemutai’s silver medal and national record are significant achievements, showcasing her resilience and competitive spirit on the global stage.
