President Museveni Commissions 132kV Power Transmission Line in Nebbi District, New Infrastructure Set to Boost Economic Growth and Electrification in West Nile Region

NEBBI, UGANDA – In a significant milestone for Uganda’s energy sector, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned the 132kV Kole-Gulu-Nebbi-Arua Transmission line in Nebbi Municipality, Nebbi district. The new power transmission line is expected to enhance electricity supply, stimulate economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the West Nile region.

The 132kV transmission line, spanning over 200 kilometers, will interconnect the districts of Kole, Gulu, Nebbi, and Arua, providing a reliable and efficient power supply to households, businesses, and industries. This infrastructure upgrade is a key component of the government’s efforts to accelerate economic development and achieve universal access to electricity.

During the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni emphasized the importance of electricity in driving economic growth and reducing poverty. He noted that the new transmission line will unlock opportunities for industrialization, job creation, and improved healthcare and education services.

The project was implemented by the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) and financed by the government of Uganda and international partners. The commissioning of the 132kV Kole-Gulu-Nebbi-Arua Transmission line marks a significant achievement in Uganda’s journey towards becoming a middle-income country by 2040.
