Kenyan President William Ruto Fires Entire Cabinet Amidst Ongoing Protests

In a shocking move, Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed his entire cabinet, retaining only his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. This drastic decision comes after weeks of protests by Kenyan youths, who demonstrated against the controversial Finance Bill 2024 and demanded the President’s resignation.

The protests, led by the GenZ group, turned violent when demonstrators overpowered police and set part of the parliament building on fire. The President’s decision to fire his cabinet is seen as a response to the public’s outcry and the mounting pressure on his government.

In a statement, President Ruto explained that he made the decision after reflecting on the people’s concerns and evaluating his cabinet’s performance. The fired cabinet secretaries include prominent figures such as Prof Kithure Kindiki, Moses Kuria, and Aden Duale.

The move is perceived as a significant shake-up in the Kenyan government, and it remains to be seen how this will impact the country’s political landscape. Despite retaining his Deputy President, rumors of a rift between Ruto and Gachagua have been circulating.

The protests and the subsequent cabinet dismissal have brought attention to the underlying issues of taxation, economic hardship, and governance in Kenya. As the situation unfolds, Kenyans and the international community are watching closely to see how President Ruto will address the concerns of his people and move the country forward.
