Before i deepdive into the reasons as to why he has ruled Uganda as if is ruling his family,The opposition party, Nup has built up a Politics School that is designed to educate and train individuals on political principles, strategies, and leadership skills to play a significant role in empowering individuals and fostering a new generation of politically aware and active citizens in Uganda.

Here are some key aspects of the NUP Politics School:

1. Political Education: The school aims to provide participants with a thorough understanding of political systems, governance, and the democratic process in Uganda and beyond.
2. Leadership Training: It focuses on developing leadership skills among participants, preparing them to take on roles within the political landscape and their communities.
3. Civic Engagement: The program encourages active civic participation and engagement, teaching individuals how to effectively advocate for their rights and the rights of others.
4. Policy Understanding: Participants learn about various policies and their implications, enabling them to make informed decisions and contribute to policy-making processes.
5. Network Building: The school provides a platform for like-minded individuals to connect, share ideas, and collaborate on political and social initiatives.

In 1997 ,June 15^th, New York Times wrote about Museveni whom they called”The Bismarck of Africa” as a first Africa leader of Uganda who resurrected his impoverished nation from two decades of brutal dictatorship and allowed women to take positions in politics but everything changed as time went on.https://www.nytimes.com/1997/06/15/world/uganda-leader-stands-tall-in-new-african-order.html

Museveni has been the President of Uganda since 1986, making him one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders who kept himself in power for over three decades. Here are some reasons why he has stayed in power for so long.

One of the ways he has maintained his long hold on power is by creating fear among the population. HOW?

1. Heavy Security Presence

Museveni uses a strong and visible security force to maintain control. The presence of military and police in public places serves as a reminder of the government’s power. This creates the feeling of fear and discourages people from protesting or speaking out against the government.

2. Arrests and Intimidation of Opponents

Many of Museveni’s political opponents have been arrested, detained, or harassed. This sends a clear message to anyone who might challenge his authority. High-profile arrests are often publicized to put fear in the population like Idd Amin did to stop them from disagreeing.

If not fear, why would religious and cultural leaders walk with security? its because they fear any time they might get abducted after talking about him and his actions to the nation and when it comes to business people, the situation worsens because if you say anything about his regime and political actions , it’s a must , the business collapse straight away.am sure you, know what am talking about.

3. Use of Force Against Protesters

The government has used violence to stop protests, with police using tear gas, rubber bullets, and sometimes even live bullets. This harsh reaction to peaceful protests makes people afraid to join future protests.

4. Surveillance and Spying

The government watches people closely using surveillance and intelligence agencies. This makes citizens afraid that their conversations, whether online or offline, are being listened to. As a result, they are scared to share their true thoughts or criticize the government, even in private.

5. Media Control

The government controls a lot of the media, so they can spread messages that support them and stop people who disagree from speaking up by cutting down the internet most especially during the campaign periods . Journalists who say negative things about the government often get threatened, harassed, or arrested. This makes people scared to speak out because they know they might get in big trouble.

6. Legal and Extrajudicial Actions

The government uses laws and sometimes illegal actions to stay in control. They change laws to silence critics and intimidate them with unlawful methods. This makes people afraid because they never know what might happen next.

7. Targeting Families of Opponents

There have been instances where the families of political opponents or activists have been targeted. This personal level of intimidation creates a deep sense of fear, as people worry not only for their own safety but also for the well-being of their loved ones.

8. Propaganda and Misinformation

The government spreads lies to make itself look strong and make its opponents seem bad. This makes people scared and not trust others who disagree with the government.

Therefor, Museveni’s long rule in Uganda has been sustained in part through the creation of fear. By using a combination of security measures, legal tactics, media control, and personal intimidation, has created an environment where disagreement is dangerous. This fear keeps people under control and helps him stay in power.
