Uganda’s Health Committee Chairperson Slams Government’s ‘Mind-Boggling’ Decision to Divert Ambulance Funds.

Kampala, Uganda – In a shocking turn of events, the Ugandan government has redirected Shs300 billion intended for the procurement of ambulances to a struggling private company, Roko Construction Company, leaving the health sector in a state of crisis.

Charles Ayume, the former Chairperson of the Health Committee, expressed his outrage and disbelief at the decision, describing it as “mind-boggling”. Ayume, who represents Koboko Municipality, took to social media to share his concerns, stating that the allocation of Shs750 billion across all sectors, including the procurement of 80 ambulances for the Ministry of Health, had been reversed.

The decision has sparked widespread criticism, with many questioning the government’s priorities and commitment to the health sector. Ayume’s remarks have resonated with many, who are calling for the government to reconsider its decision and prioritize the needs of the health sector.

This development comes at a time when Uganda’s healthcare system is already facing numerous challenges, including a shortage of medical supplies, equipment, and personnel. The diversion of funds intended for ambulances has raised concerns about the government’s ability to address these issues and ensure the well-being of its citizens.
