President Museveni Cracks Down on Corruption in NITA-U, Demands Transparency in ROWARD Deal

Kampala, Uganda – In a bold move against corruption, President Yoweri Museveni has issued an ultimatum to the Uganda National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) to sign a joint venture agreement with ROWARD capital commercial brokers LLC-Uganda, a strategic investor in the country’s telecommunications sector.

According to sources, Museveni is frustrated with NITA-U’s resistance to the deal, which aims to revamp Uganda Telecommunications Company Ltd (UTL) with a Shs830bn investment from ROWARD. The President believes that NITA-U bosses are favoring a Kenyan investor over ROWARD and spreading false rumors about the company.

Museveni has given NITA-U 21 days to sign the agreement, threatening to take drastic measures, including closing down the authority and prosecuting its top officials, if they fail to comply. This development is seen as a significant step in the fight against corruption and a demonstration of Museveni’s commitment to transparency and good governance.

“The President’s actions show that he is serious about tackling corruption and ensuring that deals are done in a transparent and fair manner,” said a government official.

The ROWARD deal is expected to revitalize UTL and enhance Uganda’s telecommunications infrastructure, providing better services to citizens and businesses. As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on NITA-U to see if they will comply with the President’s directive. One thing is clear: Museveni is determined to leave no stone unturned in his quest for accountability and transparency.
