BREAKING: President Museveni has summoned an emergency NRM CEC meeting today, a day after 3 party legislators were detained by police over corruption-related matters. The venue & agenda haven’t been disclosed.

Three Ugandan Members of Parliament, Yusuf Mutembuli, Cissy Namujju, and Paul Akamba, have been summoned for questioning by the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) at Kibuli headquarters. The lawmakers are being investigated for their alleged involvement in corrupt activities.

According to sources, two of the MPs are being questioned about their roles in the Budget Committee of Parliament, where they previously served. One MP allegedly engaged in underhanded dealings with Kenyan nationals during the processing of the Petroleum Supplies Amendment Bill in November 2023.

The other MP is accused of collecting large sums of money from various agencies while serving on the Budget committee and using the funds to purchase an expensive SUV and finance construction projects.

President Yoweri Museveni recently revealed that he had evidence of a corrupt syndicate operating from the Ministry of Finance to Parliament. The MPs are expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court, and if found guilty, may face charges related to corruption.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as more information becomes available. It is important to note that the allegations against the MPs have not been proven in a court of law, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The story has been updated to reflect that the MPs have been detained at Kira Police Division and are expected to be presented in court by Wednesday. The evidence gathered is deemed sufficient to press charges against the trio, according to sources in Kibuli and the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
