Match Day 36 Run In
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr missed out on the Saudi Pro League title for the second consecutive season when Al-Hilal defeated Al-Hazm 4-1 and clinched first place on Saturday.
Two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic, signed from Fulham in the English Premier League in the summer, did the damage. Fellow Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored and an own goal from Ahmed Al-Juwaid completed the win for Al-Hilal.
Al-Hilal collected a record-extending 19th league title. It was 12 points ahead of Riyadh rival Al-Nassr with three games remaining.
Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in December 2022, is still set to top the goal-scoring chart. On Friday, he notched his 33rd goal in a 3-2 win at Al-Okhdood and was nine clear of Mitrovic in second. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is just a goal behind the league record set by Abderrazak Hamdallah in 2019.

Tierney Could Leave Arsenal Permanently In The Summer
Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has raised speculation about his future with the club, suggesting a potential departure this summer following his loan spell at Real Sociedad.
In an interview with the Athletic, Tierney stated: “There is every chance (of leaving). Look at the squad depth in that position now. They have (Oleksandr) Zinchenko, (Jurrien) Timber, (Takehiro) Tomiyasu, (Jakub) Kiwior. Four players can play there. So if I go back and it’s the same as before then I’m not silly, I know the chances are I’ll be leaving.
“But you never know in football. You get the rare case with (William) Saliba, where he came back after a couple of good seasons (out on loan) but you don’t see it too often with someone who has played for four years, left, and then come back to play again. Stranger things have happened. I could go back and there is a place for me. So I’m prepared for both.”
Man Utd Urged To Not Appoint Southgate As Ten Hag Successor
Gary Neville has urged Manchester United not to appoint England manager Gareth Southgate as a possible successor to under-fire Erik ten Hag.
He said on the Stick to Football podcast: ‘I’ve come to the conclusion that [Gareth] Southgate can’t happen. There’s no way Manchester United can wait until mid-July, when pre-season’s already started. They’d look like they don’t know what they’re doing. And, there’s no way Gareth can announce it before a major tournament. He won’t do that.”
Man City Close-in On Fourth League Title In a Row
Manchester City swept to the top of the Premier League as Josko Gvardiol’s double inspired a vital 4-0 victory against Fulham on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side are two wins away from lifting an unprecedented fourth successive English title after a commanding display at Craven Cottage.
Gvardiol put City ahead early on before Phil Foden’s 25th goal in all competitions this season increased their lead. By the time the Croatian netted his second, City were strolling to three priceless points on a sunlit afternoon on the banks of the River Thames.
Julian Alvarez underlined City’s superiority with a late penalty after Fulham’s Issa Diop was sent off for fouling the Argentine. Now two points clear of second-placed Arsenal, City will look for a favour from their arch-rivals Manchester United, who host the Gunners on Sunday.
Now two points clear of second-placed Arsenal, City will look for a favour from their arch-rivals Manchester United, who host the Gunners on Sunday. If Arsenal fail to win at Old Trafford, City will be crowned champions if they beat Tottenham on Tuesday or West Ham in their final game on May 19.
Regardless of Arsenal’s remaining results against United and Everton, City know two more victories will make it a remarkable six titles in the last seven seasons. They rose to his challenge in style and will head to Tottenham next week boasting a 21-game unbeaten league run, having also trimmed Arsenal’s goal difference advantage over them to just two.
