The National Unity Platform Has Suspended Hon. Mpuuga.

Wrangles in Uganda’s leading opposition party, the National Unity Platform, NUP, has escalated as the party today March 28 2024, has suspended, Mathias Mpuuga from the position of the Deputy President for Central region with immediate effect.

A suspension letter to Mathias Mpuuga dated 27 March 2024, signed by the party President, Kyagulanyi Sentamu, said he has failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for engaging in corruption and abuse of office when he allocated and he received shs. 500m termed as “Service Award’, which is against the party’s vision, mission and objectives.

The suspension came at at time when the speaker of parliament, Annet Among, had replied to NUP’s decision to recall Mpuuga from the position of Commissioner of Parliament, dismissing NUP’S decision as inapplicable as the powers of pulling out Mpuuga from the position of Commissioner of Parliament lies in parliament not in the party or for him to resign voluntarily.

Two days ago, Mpuuga held a press conference at which he vowed not to resign from the party, he said, he started. He also vowed to soon embark on a campaign to streamline the operation of the party from within and bring democracy in the party.
