Africa Rugby has unanimously accepted Uganda’s bid to host the 2024 and 2025 Editions of Rugby Africa Cup at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole

This was confirmed in a letter dated 19 February 2024, written by the President of Africa Rugby, Herbert Mensah to the Uganda Rugby Union.

On 28 October 2023, Uganda Rugby Union wrote to Africa Rugby expressing interest in hosting the two tournaments.
The new renovation at Nambole staidium is now ready to host both local and international games.

The current renovations at Namboole have taken care of several other sports disciplines, including Rugby and I am glad to report that we are ready to start hosting both local and international games.

The African Cup of Rugby Union took place for the first time in 2000 with five teams taking part in the event, moroco, Tunisia, Namibia, Zimbabwe and the hosts South Africa..

Hosting this cup is likely to benefit us as a country since we will be hosting a variety of countries which will be participating in this tournament. From accommodation, food stuffs and our tourism sites, hosting this tonurmrnt will increase our returns as a country.

Most of the Ugandan youth will get inspired by the players and this will increase on the number of the members on the Uganda rugby team in case they are given a chance to expose their rights.

Uganda’s sports image is brightening and I am very sure that our co-hosting of the AFCON will contribute a lot in the development of our sports facilities as a country.

The ministry of Finance has also allocated 20 billion for the construction of 11 training grounds for all participating teams.
