Business: What is Causing the Income Drop in Uganda’s Economy

The country is running short of income though the source are still standing and acting.

This is happening as some ministries are failing to present the collected amounts in form of capital to the Uganda Revenue Authority.

One of the live examples is that the ministry of energy is alleged to have failed to collect 5 billions Uganda shillings from Gold tax, a thing that is creating anxiety among other tax payers who continue to pay their dues to the Government.

Between July 2022 and 3rd March 2023 a total of 7839.1Kg of processed gold were exported from the government and the government was expected to collect Export levy a mounting to UGX 5.811billion.

It was found out that only UGX 428.7 million was collected by the Uganda Revenue Authority leaving an outstanding unexplained balance of UGX 5,383 billion of uncollected taxes.

Gold exports are now among the country’s number one revenue and yet in terms of it’s revenue contribution, gold is laterally nowhere, a discrepancy which is blamed on the gymnastics going on in the ministry and the gold miners.

This poses the question to the citizens where that money could have gone and why some of the taxes are said not be collected.

If some other companies also do the same as the this ministry, it means that the country and the citizens will not benefit from the country’s resources.

This habit might be the one that is making Uganda fall behind as far as service delivery is concerned .

If this habit is not worked on as early as it can be solved it means it will keep pushing behind the budget framework papers .

These are the things that are increasing poverty in the country because the poverty levels in Uganda are going high everyday and then.

Not being a prophet of doom, but this is soon to be heard from a another ministry.
