HEALTH: Oral Health.

Oral health is a state of the mouth , teeth and oral facial structure that enables an individual to perform essential
function such as Eating, breathing and speaking.


Leafy green vegetables are better than using the mouth wash in oral health. Mouth wash has some of the side effects and they include; dry mouth, development of antimicrobial resistance and increased blood pressure.
Mouth wash is recommended to be used twice a day ,after brushing and flossing the teeth. The Nitrate molecule in leafy green vegetable offers the greater benefits for oral health.

The leafy green vegetables are rich in nutrients, fibre and lowering calories and fat. They include; Kale, collard, greens, spinach and cabbage. Green vegetables are rich in vitamin A andVitamin C which work to improve gum health and fight the built up bacteria in the mouth and they also have iron which acts as natural fighter.


The common causes of poor oral health include; inadequate brushing which causes tooth decay and gum disease, eating sugary foods and smoking which can also contribute to bad breath, tooth decay and gum infections.
In 2022 Uganda registered 75% of tooth decay among adults whereas among the children almost 90% of tooth decay was registered.


In order to maintain a good oral health we should practice good oral hygiene; brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day and floss daily between the teeth to remove dental plaque, visit the dentist at least once in a year even if you have no natural teeth or have dentures and don’t use any tobacco product.
