OVERCOMING THE URGE FOR INSTANT GRATIFICATION : THE INNER STRUGGLES OF TODAY’S YOUTH.

It is important to avoid making sweeping generalisations about today’s youth based on negative character traits. While there may be individuals who exhibit laziness and a preference for partying, it is unfair to label an entire generation with these traits. Moreover, it is crucial to understand that personal choices and experiences vary greatly among individuals, regardless of age.

That being said, it is possible to discuss some potentially negative character traits that anyone, including young people, may exhibit. These traits include; Laziness, some individuals lack motivation and be unwilling to put in the necessary effort to achieve their goals or contribute to the society.

Procrastination, this trait involves continually delaying tasks or responsibilities, often to the point of negative consequences. It can lead to missed opportunities and unfilled potential. The other trait is Hedonism a preference for immediate pleasure, such as partying, can sometimes overshadow long-term goals or responsibilities. This trait may result in regret when looking back on missed opportunities.

Lack of ambition which is a general disinterest in setting and pursuing worthwhile goals can be detrimental in various aspects of life, including career, relationships and personal development. Another aspect is Irresponsibility, failing to take ownership of one’s actions or neglecting obligations and commitments can have negative consequences not only for the individual but also for those around them.

Poor time management. Ineffectively managing time can result in wasted opportunities and a lack of productivity, which in turn can lead to feelings of regret later in life. It is crucial to recognise that negative character traits can be found in all age groups, and it is unfair and inaccurate to exclusively attribute them to today’s youth. Many young people today exhibit positive character traits such as ambition, resilience, creativity and a strong work ethics. It’s essential to promote understanding, empathy, and support for individuals’ personal journeys rather than perpetuating stereotypes or judgements based on age.
