The citizens are all at risk of losing their lives and property, yet they have very many police stations and police officers around them.
If the police station it’s self is not secure could a citizen be secure? Because most of the police officers are not always in their offices and after they have arrived they tell you that we may not help you because this case is so complicated.
Should we think these police men only put on their uniforms and make the citizens get scared of them than helping the citizens in case of a problem.
Most of the citizens have found it hard for them to get help from these police men who are always at the police stations because they don’t help the citizens the way you expect them to help. Instead they keep on getting answers like “There is no way we can help you”.
Most of the citizens have started developing the feeling that maybe these police men are there to protect only one person who is in power than protecting the country or maybe they are in the offices to see that they are there.
This has made most of the citizens utilize their time by stealing people’s property and killing very many people because they are very aware that no one will find them since these men are busy protecting one person.
According to the Uganda police, there was an increase in crime rates. In 2022, the police reported that the crime rates had increased by 15% and in 2021, the police reported that the crime rates had increased by 10%.
The surge in crime is a major concern for the Ugandan government. This is because Uganda’s police and the army are always transported to other countries to cab the problems and fight for peace but when it is about issues concerning our own country, they start praising the commander in chief.
Is Security a service or a business?
It maybe a business because most of the people find it hard to get the police officers to find out about something without some giving them some money.
But if they are provided with some money, they work on someone’s investigation and get done just in a few days.
The theft cases are increasing day and night but those worked upon and given attention to, are those always presented to the police with a certain amount of money.
According to the police report, Uganda registered 55,704 cases in 2019 and the number decreased in 2020 and 2021 but of which these cases have again sharply risen in the last two years to 61508 in 2022 and 65901 in 2023.
Very many people are losing their lives because they lack security and some of these people are killed by guns which should be in the security operatives control. This is making every citizen get confused on how an individual can own a gun without the police knowing the real owners of these guns.
According to the Uganda police, the Uganda murder or Homicide rates for 2021 was at 8.53%, a 15.06% decline from 2020. Uganda homicide rate for 2020 was 10.04%,a 8.57% decline from 2019.
According to the Uganda police report released on 2rd December 2023 Uganda’s has over 120 police stations and 52000 police men against the population of about 45 million which translates into a population ratio of 1:832. Should we say that these Police Stations are not enough?
