TRADERS UNSATIFIED WITH THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS

The city traders are unsatisfied with the president’s address concerning their pending issues mostly especially the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solutions [EFRIS].

The president yesterday met with the traders and the meeting was held at Kololo independence grounds.

The meeting was also attended by the prime minister Rt Hon. Roniah Nabbanja ,The Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General Mr. John Musinguzi.

The traders raised there issues which included  corruption allegation against the URA official , over and double taxation.

In his speech he dismissed claims that there are too many taxes in the country , stating that they are on true.

The president directed URA to stop blanket implementation of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solutions because the traders operate at different capacity levels.

He also said that ‘’I don’t see any double taxation here you only pay once and you don’t pay what the other one has already paid and I protects our factories now what you should  study with your leaders and the tax people is what you said about EFRIS.

‘The policy of government on taxes is quit deliberate and they normally do not tax what ‘Build Uganda’ and if they do they impose a smaller tax. he encouraged the traders to instead embrace exporting locally manufactured products’.

‘When we came from the bush , there was a tax on export in coffee ,it was called coffee tax , we abolished that tax. there’s no tax on the export of coffee an other product which is sold out side and yet when NRM came the into government that was the main source of tax , show me just one tax on a Uganda product.

He also warned Ugandan traders against excessive importation due to the limited number of taxes.

In his conclusive remark the president said that he will give his final action plan to the disgruntled traders in another meeting set for June 20th that the same venue.

Many traders where not pleased with the presidential address.

Mr Jembe Mulonda the deputy spoke person on the Kampala city traders association [KACITA] said that will not relent in air pursuit for a fair play in field in business.

Mr Kanbanda one of the traders leaders in the Kampala city said that ‘they are going to meet as traders and plan on the way forward ‘’ we need mindset change because that problem started sometime ago but we mare trying to work on it and we have worked on it because it is not as it used to be but with time in know we going to improve.

‘We also requested president  to meet them annual for constructive interactions regarding their business’’ he added.
