Senegalese Went For Polls: Who Will Win The Vote?

Senegal’s closely contested presidential election, scheduled for Sunday today, saw intense campaigning on its last day. Large crowds rallied in Dakar and Mbour, backing favored candidates Amadou Ba and Bassirou Diomaye Faye, respectively.

The race, anticipated to be the tightest in the country’s history, pits Ba, aligned with President Macky Sall’s party, against Faye, supported by Ousmane Sonko. Faye and Sonko resonate with the youth, while Ba enjoys significant backing in Dakar.

Despite slim chances, Anta Babacar Ngom, the sole female candidate, symbolizes progress toward gender equality. Economic concerns drive her promises of job creation and financial support for women. Ba expressed confidence in his victory, while supporters of both candidates voiced dissatisfaction with current economic challenges.

As campaigning concludes, the election outcome hinges on the ballot casting, with the possibility of a runoff if no candidate secures over 50% of votes. What are your predictions for the elections, and if you are Senegalese, who are you voting for?
